Match Report

HARPENDEN IV : 3 (awarded)
LETCHWORTH V: 0
03.03.2007

Harpenden 4th XI sealed the Div 8SW crown on Saturday as Letchworth were too scared of getting another trouncing at the "Field of Dreams".

So it really is true then, Fortress Brache is inpregnable. For the second time this season a visiting team was so petrified of getting a taste of humiliating defeat that they didn't even show up! Mind you, considering the "Lucky Orange Shirts" had put 9 goals past the oppo without reply in the previous two fixtures, this probably wasn't the game to bring a weakened side to, as, after the humbling at the hands of a good Ricky side the week before, a backlash was surely on the cards...

The success this season is down to a strong team ethos, with each and every player that has shed a drop of sweat for us playing a part, from the cameos by Bam Bam, Madame Whiplash and The Devil, to ever-presents of the side, to the staunch supporters who've followed us through wind and rain.

We set the tone in the first game of the season, playing attrociously for 20 minutes and going 1-0 down, before sorting ourselves back with some resolute and stoic defending, to see the winner lashed between the keepers legs with 5 minutes to go. From there we went on an unbeaten run past Christmas, eventually succumbing to some Broxbourne ringers (surely not I hear you say...) and then more recently to a Ricky team who just wanted it more.

More will be said about the heroes, magic moments and heartbreaks of the
campaign in the end of season report, but let's go and finish the season in style with two more wins, a cracking curry (not in Shapla), and just perhaps a couple of bottles of bubbly (or grape juice for those that don't).

If only the real trophy was as big as the monolith in the representation
above!

Thanks to each and everyone, and especially Yoda, our spiritual leader,
mentor. Jose "The Special One" Mourinho hasn't got a patch on you!
