With the disappointment of the previous
day, Harps were keen to exorcise the loss against Pelicans with
a strong showing against BBHC in the 2nd round of the Harrods
HA Trophy. However, things didn’t start to plan, with two
quick goals conceded again in the early stages to see Harpenden
go down 2-0 after 15 minutes.
However, Harpenden learnt from their previous
mistakes in the weekend, and turned on the style. Boyd-Clark emphatically
finished a Baines pass to make the score 2-1. This was followed
by more pressure by Harps and a stroke was awarded after the over-eager
BBHC keeper felled experienced striker Ali Hutson in the circle.
This was put away by captain Emes to level the scores going into
the half time break.
The
second half started as the first finished with lots of Harpenden
pressure. Boyd-Clark turned in a well worked penalty corner routine
to take the lead. He then completed his hat-trick with a strong
finish at another corner after a rare assist by full-back Paul
Davison. Emes got his second of the day from a drag flicked penalty
corner, completing the scoring and winning the game 5-2. Slightly
earlier Harpenden was awarded another stroke, yet again Ali Hutson
was taken out by the BBHC with a sliding tackle unfortunately
Emes accuracy let him down and guided the ball onto the post.
It was a welcome performance from Harps, showing
good bouncebackability after the disappointment of Saturday. There
were some promising performances from the game, with excellent
performances from Herts U16 starlets, Matt Beggs and Ali Arnsby
putting in good performances. Club President Alan Sanders commented
after the game how encouraged he was to see such a strong performance
in the Trophy, especially that of the youngsters in the side.
As we reach the half way point in the league,
Harpenden sit third behind Wapping and Bishop Stortford and they
are through to the 3rd round of the HA Trophy. In their final
game before the Christmas break, Harpenden play Colchester away
seeking another three points to take into the holiday period.
