HARPENDEN: 3
VAUXHALL: 0

12.2.05

Harpenden continued their run of good results, having now taken 22 out of the 24 points available from the last 8 games, with a 3-0 win against a struggling Vauxhall side.

Harpenden had by far the better of the first half exchanges and although Vauxhall had spells of possession they did very little to threaten the Harpenden goal. Harpenden looked dangerous from short corners and twice had goals disallowed that found the back of the net. Nigel Timms hit the post twice and would have been disappointed not to tuck away his sliding effort at the far post. The breakthrough came from a short Corner. Matt Horn was first to a Mike Emes pass and deflected the ball past the keeper.

Vauxhall had a player sin-binned for violent play just before half time. This cost them badly as straight after half time, with Vauxhall still down to ten men, Harpenden Grabbed their second. The move of the game resulted in Russell Timms picking out his brother Nigel with a cross for a simple tap in.

Vauxhall came back in to the game and won several short corners. David Jeffrey was called upon twice to make goal line saves and Alan Clarke put in one of his best performances of the season to keep a clean sheet and take the honours as man of the match.

The result was put beyond all doubt when captain Mike Emes continue his impressive scoring run of recent weeks to find the top right hand corner of the net with a shot from the top of the Dee.

Harpenden will travel to table toppers Wapping next week, and will need at least a prevent Wapping from being crowned champions on the day.
