MILL HILL 1 : 1
12.9.04
Harpenden came away with a victory from
their first 70 minute game of the season.
The first half was an end to end affair, with both teams giving
the ball away cheaply and finding it difficult to hold possession
of the ball for long periods of time. Short corners were common
at both ends and it was from an HHC Shorty that Harpenden managed
to take the lead. A misplaced injection was slipped to new boy
DJ who picked out Niall Blackwell with an inch perfect pass/shot.
Niall deflected the ball slickly past the keeper to take the lead
for the Blues. Mill Hill had their chances but it was Harpenden
that managed to put the goals on the board. Niall Blackwell at
the hub of the move again, fed it to goal/baby making machine
Jabba the Hutson who classily rounded the keeper and slotted the
ball between the sticks.
2-0 up at half time the blues felt confident that they could
push on and look for more goals. A more aggressive formation meant
that Harpenden were able to take a lot more possession in the
Mill Hill half, but they were unable to convert this in to more
goals or even chances. In fact it was Mill Hill who scored the
only goal, from one of several second half breaks and it could
have been more if it wasn’t for some strong defensive work
form Man of the Match, DJ and some classy saves from Clarky in
goal.
Harpenden can take positives from both the chances and goals
created in the first half and the amount of possession they retained
in the second half. If they manage to put these two areas together
in future weeks they should become a team to watch.
Harpenden will be appearing in the “Home Marin Challenge
Cup” at Cheshunt this Saturday (All ticket) before their
league campaign starts the week after.
And Finally….
I was asked to pass on a vote of thanks from the Mill Hill centre
forward to Mike Emes for the killer service he provided him with
all match.
