HARPENDEN: 9
CHESHUNT: 1

19.03.05

It was mission accomplished for Harpenden Mens 1st XI on Saturday. They have successfully bounced back from a disappointing relegation last season and confirmed their promotion back to Division 1 with a 9-1 victory over an already relegated Cheshunt side. Harpenden went into the game fairly confident that a win would be enough to guarantee promotion and they managed to claim the 3 points in convincing style.

In a slightly disappointing first half, Harpenden only managed to score two goals and could have possibly conceded at the other end if it wasn’t for a good save from keeper Alan Clarke. Lance Boyd Clarke scored Harpenden’s first, putting away a cross from the right and Nigel Timms grabbed his first of three in an impressive Man of the Match winning performance.

Harpenden put in a much more impressive performance in the second half and this was helped by a goal in the opening seconds of the half from Ali Hutson who grabbed his first of two goals. Mike Emes and Matt Horn also added their names to the score sheet, with a goal each from Short Corners. Feeling somewhat left out, Cheshunt joined in the fun by scoring a goal for each team but there was never any doubt about where the points were going.

With celebrations quickly out of the way Harpenden will now be looking forward to next season where they will be looking to build further on their recently improved performances.
