Match Report

Berk & Hemel: 0
Harpenden: 4
01.12.07

The ladies travelled to Aylesbury to play third from the bottom of the table Berk & Hemel on Saturday.  Despite the cold wind and the slightly slippery surface of the pitch that caused several comedy falls, Harps got off to a good start.
Plenty of possession and some strong surges forward saw the away team win a plethora of short corners with Clare Gardner opening the scoring, powering home a straight strike from the top of the D.  Further opportunities went awry however as the Berk & Hemel defence held fast and capitalised on Harps trapping errors.
Nevertheless, Harps continued to press on and some good movement in the oppositions D allowed Vicki Sandell to slot the ball home taking the score to 2-0.  A third goal should have been added just before half time as an improvised short corner opened up plenty of space for the attack to flick the ball home but the Berk & Hemel goalie managed to get a touch and send the ball wide.
Two more goals from the Harps side came after half time; a superb effort from Cathy Port who cleverly twisted and turned her way through the defence to unleash a shot that whizzed straight past the keeper and another from Clare Gardner from a short corner.

Man of the match:  Julia Burnell
