Harpenden traveled to sunny South Woodham Ferrers to face the team they had previously beaten 3-1 in the first game of the season. The ladies dismissed their last two disappointing weeks and were quick to set up their game and put pressure onto the opposition, spending the first 15 minutes camped in the Essex team’s half of the pitch. The pressure did not prove fruitful for the visiting team however as a defensive clearance slyly skipped past the Harps defence and reached the high South Woodham Ferrers forward who proceeded to drive the ball at pace into the Harps D and in a one on one with keeper Emily Meade coolly slotted the ball into the goal to open up the scoring.

Despite this initial shock, Harps regained their composure and some slick passing saw the side camped once again in the oppositions half.  This time, the pressure was rewarded just before the half time whistle when a superb through ball from Laura Jackson found the stick of Julia Power who touched the ball past the keeper to equalize.

After a positive half time team talk, Harps dominated the second half.  The forward line constantly tested the South Woodham Ferrers defence with Karen Lincoln twisting and turning players and the ever zippy Georgia Naden driving some good balls down the wing.  Harps were eager to score more goals and certainly had plenty of opportunities to do so from several short corners.  Frustratingly so however, the corners fizzled out one by one without any score until finally persistence paid off and the ball was powered home from a fine strike by Jackson to take the score to 2-1.   South Woodham Ferrers did not give up though and Harps had to remain on their toes until the final whistle to ensure a relieved victory.
