Harpenden travelled to Broxbourne for their second league game of the new season hoping to carry on their winning ways. Despite a sluggish warm up in the balmy weather, the girls started the game strongly. A good period of possession with some excellent robust passing saw the ball transfer to Vicky Quinn who in turn fed Jules Rees who pinged the ball into the back of the net to open up the scoring for the visiting side. A few minutes later Sabrina Jayaseelan almost made the score 2-0 but was denied by the Broxbourne keeper.
The second half saw Broxbourne come out of the starting blocks in fighting form and put immense pressure on the Harps side but some excellent work by the defence kept the light blue attack at bay. Harps responded by once more stringing together some excellent passes with Nic Pendleton and Jac Clark working hard in the middle of the pitch and the forwards making some good lead runs. Karen Lincoln came close to scoring from a well timed strike near the top of the D but the ball just skimmed past the post. Broxbourne had not given up though and won a string of short corners in the last few minutes of the game as the legs of the Harps side tired. Keeper and birthday girl Emily Meade however kept the visitors in the game saving each shot comfortably.
Harpenden entertain top of the league side Canterbury 2A’s next Saturday at home, 11.30am.
