A tough match away to Vauxhall Chiltern
faced the Harpenden squad at the weekend.
Basking in the warm sunshine, Harps started their game slowly,
somewhat lacking the drive and determination that saw them dominate
the second half of the game.
One or two spells of excellent passing gradually filtered into
the latter stages of the first half as Harps finally settled down
and began to prise open the Chiltern defence. After Harps had
threatened the goal on more than one occasion, Lincoln opened
the scoring with some neat individual skill.
Chiltern were by no means beaten and some strong waves of attack
followed the first goal but the Harps defence stood strong with
keeper Meade staying alert when called upon to see the team into
the second half with a 1 goal advantage.
The second half saw Harpenden start with a spring in their step
as they upped the ante with Smith coming close to putting the
second in when a trade mark slap from the top of the D went narrowly
over the bar.
It wasn’t long before Harp’s pressured Chiltern into
conceding a short corner. Slough injected the ball and bam! the
ball had whizzed back to the post where Slough was waiting to
defiantly crash the ball home into the backboard! 2-0.
Harps kept the pressure on for the remainder of time but after
last weeks late goal against them did not over commit players
thus guarding the precious 4 points awarded for the win!
