| South herts: 2
Harpenden: 5

Following a solid 4-0 victory over Broxbourne
last week, Harpenden went into a top of the table clash in pole
position. Things couldn’t be closer though, Harpenden and
South Herts both shared the same points and there were only 3
goals in it. A win was a must to hold onto the top spot!
Harp’s started in a determined fashion and played some
neat hockey. It wasn’t long before Harpenden slotted the
first goal home with Lincoln being the goal scorer. Harp’s
did not want to sit back and defend their lead as everyone knew
what South Herts were capable of and a 1 goal advantage would
never be enough to win the match.
The second goal came via a short corner that Slough “last
week’s goal machine” put away in fine style.
South Herts came back strongly testing the defence of Dear, Connell,
Gardner, Naden and Meade but the Harps fought valiantly and saw
off the pressure.
Harp’s set about upping the pace after this scare which
led to the next goal; Lincoln faced with a diving keeper coolly
slotted the ball through a precise gap to take Harp’s up
to 3-0.
Harp’s were not done yet and wanted a fourth before half
time, this time it was England who got her name on the goal sheet,
with some excellent individual skill and a determined finish.
South Herts were not put off though and tried to make amends
before half time, but Meade pulled off some excellent saves which
later earned her a man of the match performance!
The second half came and Harps added a fifth goal just after
the push back with Lincoln turning provider for Borman who had
snuck onto the back post to slam the ball home.
At 5-0 up, Harps were confident of maintaining the lead until
time but the fated Harps headrush and ensuing lapse of concentration
let South Herts back into the game scoring 2 goals in quick succession
and forcing Harps to work extremely hard to keep the score line
at 5-2.
