| Banbury: 4
Harpenden: 1
22.01.06
Harpenden traveled away to Banbury for the
next round in the Vase.
It was quickly evident that this was going to
be a tough match with a well organized Banbury side.
The first goal came from Banbury after about ten
minutes, their pressure told and a lovely cross was meet by the
C.F who slapped home from close range. Stand in keeper Rosemary
was left with no chance.
Harp’s did get there selves back into the
game via a short corner, the slip right to Vicky Borman was struck
well and England’s speedy run meet the ball to turn over
the line.
Harpenden worked hard for the remainder of the
half against a team who were clearly the better side. A cruel
blow was had just before half time as Harp’s couldn’t
hold Banbury’s pressure off anymore. The whistle quickly
followed, Harp’s went in with a 2-1 deficit.
Another blow was had for Harp’s straight
after the re start, Harps were hoping to hit back hard to take
the match back to 2-2 but the ball was lost in midfield and Banbury
drove forward, an unfortunate decision led to a short corner which
was well taken and skipper Dear could only stop the ball on the
line with her foot, the resulting flick was well taken and again
Rosemary was unlucky.
3-1 down and Harp’s seemingly had no way
back, However Harpenden worked hard and stayed extremely disciplined,
some good shots from forwards, Lythgoe and Lincoln who worked
hard for 70 minutes were well saved by the keeper. Rees also enjoyed
some attacking play up the line and was supported well by Naden.
Rosemary made more good saves coming out and standing
big to one on one situations.
Their was a final goal to be had by Banbury to
take the score to 4-1.
Harpenden were unlucky not to score a couple more
goals but the result was fair as they were simply out played by
a better side.
Harpenden can now put their lessons learnt into
practice and concentrate on getting promoted in the league.
