REPRIEVED AS LEAGUE BACK-TRACK ON RELEGATION
26.06.05
The club was the recipient of good news
this week when it was confirmed that the men's twos would not
be relegated from Div 3SW despite an earlier announcement to the
contrary.
It's been something of a rollercoaster ride for the team, which
had finished third bottom with only two teams due to go down.
However, the implications of two Southern teams being relegated
from leagues higher up had seen a league reshuffle with the 2s
joining relegated Bedford III and West Herts III in Div 4. Subsequently
- and for as yet unknown reasons - neither Welwyn 1s (relegated
from Div 2) or Shefford and Sandy IIs (midtable last year in Div
3) are among the teams in Div 3 next season.
Said incoming 2s skipper Steve Piercy, "Oh it's great
news. I'm stoked. We thought third bottom would be enough, then
it wasn't and now it is again! We're delighted that we'll be in
Div 3 again because we know we underperformed last year and we
want to show people that we can compete at the top end of Div
3 rather than struggle at the foot of it."
It's also good news for the club as a whole - with the Men's first
team securing promotion to Division 1, a three league gap would
be a big leap for any players called up from the 2s to play for
the 1s. As club captain Paul Nash commented 'We need the lads
in the 2s putting pressure on the 1s, or at least ensuring that
the 1s have a supply of 2s players they can call on to do a job
if needs be.'
The league kicks off on October 1st. Watch this space for information
