REPORT GUIDELINES
25.09.07
Over
the course of a season, you may be asked – or hopefully
volunteer – to write a match report. These are really important,
as they give us the opportunity to share our successes and commiserate
our defeats with other members of the club – especially
essential considering our somewhat nomadic existence. So, putting
pen to paper (well, finger to keyboard) is a way that we can all
do our bit for the club.
To
help you, here are Ten Top Tips To Tremendous Testimonies. It
would be great if guest reporters could adhere to these as best
as possible so we have some consistency throughout the club.
- Please
create your match reports in a Word document, rather than write
them in a body of an email.
- Mens
match reports should be emailed to Russell
Timms, ladies to Jules
Rees, by a Monday evening.
- Please
put the names of the home and away teams, a roman numeral for
any team other than a first team, and their scores, at the top
of the email. eg
HARPENDEN II: 4
ROYSTON: 2
-
Then the date, in DD.MM.YY format
-
Reports needn’t be very long – 4 or 5 paras or 500-700
words is more than enough.
-
When referring to players, please use their full name first,
then just their surname subsequently. Nicknames often mean very
little to people in other teams throughout the club.
-
Please list the team and the goalscorers at the foot of the
report.
-
If you have a suitable photo, please attach it and say who it
is.
-
Credit where it’s due – feel free to put ‘Match
report by Your Name’ at the foot of the report!
-
Finally, please remember – harpendenhockeyclub.co.uk is
a family site, read by adults, juniors, current and potential
members, opposition and league officials alike. We must therefore
use appropriate language and not say anything too scurrilous
about our opposition or umpires! This is only courteous –
umpires give up their time to umpire our games and without them
we couldn’t play, so there is little to be gained from
criticising them.
