Sun,
sea, surf... and hockey? Here's HHC's Tour Supremo Ben Brind on
the chance of a lifetime...
Every year Banks Beer hold one of the biggest and best hockey
tournaments in the world!! There are several members of the club
who have already enjoyed the hospitality of the Bajans, so rather
than bore you with the details why not talk to the like of Kev
Mocham, Sam Martyn, Russell Timms, Dan Carter, Nick Crane &
myself. Many of you now have ventured to one of our summer trips
and I think that it is fair to say that nobody fails to enjoy
themselves.
Now, here's your chance to take part in this tournament, in 2008.
At this point I would just like to gauge the level
of interest. I will not look to make any thing official until
August/September 06. If you're interested then please send email
me, just commenting on whether you would rather pay £1500
with most activities thrown in or £750 and worry about all
the rest when you get out there. Your interest at this point is
no commitment so please just let me know that you would like to
be considered and let me know any concerns that you have.
The
Holiday
The trip is usually around 14days and as the tournament takes
up less than that, there is plenty of time for holidaymaking.
This tour is not just a beer fest for the lager heads and can
just as well be a nice family break. Among the activities available
are a Catamaran Cruise, a voyage on the Jolly Roger, a nature
park and of course a number of awesome beaches!
The Hockey
The Banks Festival is a truly international affair
with teams attracted from all around the world including the UK,
Holland, Germany, the United States and more. All sport is taken
seriously in the Caribbean and the standard of the game varies
from international to the local small town brutes. The games are
mainly played on grass with some games played on the national
(sometimes) water-based pitch. The festival lasts for around 5
days and the rest of the holiday is open for group events, sunbathing,
day trips and possibly the odd drink.
So what’s
the plan for 2008
In 2000 we made a real name for ourselves as both
hardened drinkers, and a finely tuned hockey machine. Whilst maintaining
a respectable level of decorum. Baring in mind that all 40+ of
the group had such a good time it seems a shame that we have yet
to repeat the visit.
In short and given the new look to the club I
would like to take a group back out to the Caribbean. I would
like to aim to take at least one men’s and one ladies team
and from those teams also enter a mixed team.
The cost can vary tremendously depending on how
you choose to travel the two weeks can be as little as £1000
and can go as high as £1500+. I will start planning so far
in advance so that payments can be staggered and everybody can
come. Obviously the more that go the cheaper it gets for all.
If you're interested, let me know! I look forward to hearing from
you all soon
Yours truly,
Benno
